Alan Stivell biography
Born in 1944 in Gourin, Brittany, France, Alan Cochevelou was the son of Georges, who had re-discovered the Breton harp, and became a builder of said instrument. He gave Alan his first harp when Alan was only 9, and the boy was playing concerts before he reached his teens. He took an interest in pan-celtic music and became a professional musician at the age of 21. His adopted surname means "source". While he possesses a charming voice in Breton, French and English, his status as the savior of the Breton harp is unshakable. His willingness to explore the integration of the harp with other instruments and styles is what puts him in the same class as jazz greats who helped break down stylistic barriers and achieve recognition across the spectrum.♫•¨*•.¸¸.►♪♫٩(͡๏̯͡๏)۶►♪_♫G*.


His first two recordings were done in the early 60s and eventually combined on one release. They represent the more "authentic" side, containg mostly well known traditional tunes played on solo harp. He did not release again until 1971 with the groundbreaking "Reflets" that introduced his endearingly languid vocal style to the richly plucked harp and set the groundwork for what was to come. He made the traditional his own and his own traditional. His most regarded early album is the instrumental work that summed up what his family had done from the perspective of the harp - "Renaissance de la Harpe Celtique" in 1972. Pre-dating the new age genre by over a decade, it simultaneously shows how beautiful that style could be when wedded to an ancient muse, and the degree to which so much new age music is superficial pseudo-intellectual doodling.♫•¨*•.¸¸.►♪♫٩(͡๏̯͡๏)۶►♪_♫G*.

A succession of other accomplished albums followed in the 70s, such as "E Langonned" (1974) and "Journee a la Maison" (1978). He upped the ante with "Celtic Symphony" (1979), a heavily orchestrated affair that garnered mixed reviews and was nothing if not ambitious. Later albums that tend to receive accolades include "Mist of Avalon" (1991), Brian Boru" (1995) and even the more hi-tech "Explore" (2006). Over the years his output has been prolific - of course, as with any venerable artist, much overlap and many compilations and rereleases make it hard to discern the true output of the man. While he remains highly respected, his earlier work tends to remain the most recommended.

Through his nearly 50 year recording career, Stivell has never stayed still. Listening to this album today it may sound dated and old-fashioned, but one should keep in mind the fact that this was the very first LP record of progressive rock in ex-Yugoslavia, released only shortly before the equally important KORNI GRUPA's eponimous debut. Year 1972 marks the real beginning of rock album discography in this country. Thereafter, every next year would see more and more LP records released.
The key songs were on the B side of the vynil: "Kralj alkohol", wonderful piano-driven jazz ballad about the sorrowful life of the alcoholics, and epic 10-minute "Za koji zivot treba da se rodim" with philosophical lyrics about a man's role in the life and excellent Hammond and piano exchange. On the A side there are: a strong blues-rock opener "Istina masina", a beautiful acoustic ballad with nice flute melody "Pjesma No. 3" and a jolly instrumental with scat singing "Hegedupa upa", possibly influenced by FOCUS' "Hocus Pocus". The CD re-release 1993 by Croatia Records includes bonus: a popular folk-inspired single "Makedonija" and a power ballad "Da li znas da te volim" from "Time II" album. Highly recommended listening for anyone.

KAKANJ - Opet su poslani u neizvjesnost, u novu jamu, bez ikakvih garancija za sigurnost. Opet je pohlepa i trka za zaradom ROBOPOSJEDNIKA i
LOPOVA, u smrt odvela četiri čovjeka, četiri rudara u jami kod Kaknja.
U jedan sat iza pola noći. Bezdušnici i licemjeri, paraziti nakaradno postavljenog sistema ljude šalju u smrt. Kalkuliraju našim glavama,
uračunavaju ih u svoj profit u korporacijama koje su leglo kriminala, korupcije, nepotizma i koje su zlatni rudnici financiranja ovog i ovakvog sistema. Sistema u kojem licitiraju našim životima, našim glavama. Jer, mi smo svi u ovoj jadnoj državi poput ovih rudara. Oni nas ubijaju, a mi im na tome aplaudiramo i čestitamo. Pomažemo im i bukvalno im sami dajemo svoje živote na raspolaganje.
Ni ovaj put vjerojatno nitko neće snositi odgovornost. Nitko neće postaviti pitanje jesu li rudari imali uvjete za siguran rad i kopanje u nedavno otvorenoj jami. Te marionetske inspekcijske službe nisu neovisne i slobodne. One bi kao trebale utvrditi sve okolnosti pod kojima je došlo do ove nesreće, još jedne u nizu u našim rudnicima koja je ovaj put uzela četiri života. Takve inspekcijske službe je isti sistem postavio i imenovao kako bi se sam zaštitio u tragičnim slučajevima u rudnicima kakav se noćas dogodio u Kaknju. Je li do sada ikada utvrđena nečija odgovornost? Je li ijednom uočen i evidentiran propust odgovornih ljudi za izvođenje radova na kritičnim mjestima u jamama bh.rudnika? Naravno da nije.
Sumnjam da će i ovaj put inspekcija utvrditi odgovornost i konačno imenovati krivce. Ako bi to uradili, a morali bi, potpisali bi sebi automatsku suspenziju. Ostali bi bez plaće jer sistem koji se ovdje održava i na mrtvim glavama je postavio te inspekcijske službe i financira ih. Stoga je neophodno da se u jamu rudnika Kakanj u kojoj je noćas došlo do tragedije spusti međunarodna neovisna inspekcija koja treba utvrditi sve činjenice i okolnosti pod kojima je do nesreće došlo.
